Audubon Chart No. 1. Massachusetts Audubon Society. Published by the Milton Bradley Company, Springfield Massachusetts, 1898.
A fabulously decorative chart of the kind that was displayed in kitchens at the turn of the twentieth century. The famous American bird artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes depicted twenty-six birds - the Chimney Swift, Purple Finch, Barn Swallow, Bobolink, Yellow Warbler, Wood Thrush, Golden-Crowned Kinglet, Chickadee, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Catbird, Red-eyed Vireo, Scarlet Tanager, Kingbird, Baltimore Oriole, Red-Winged Blackbird, Cedar Waxwing, Blue Jay, Downy Woodpecker, Flicker, Robin, Bluebird, Song Sparrow, Black and White Warbler, House Wren, Goldfinch, and Chipping Sparrow. The birds are so accurately and artistically rendered that an impression of this work is on permanent display in the Adelson Library at Cornell University. It is rarely seen in this excellent condition.
