George Washington and his Family. New York: Baillie, ca. 1845. $175 Print

General George Washington and his family, including Martha Custiss Washinton and his grandchildren“Washington Family”

Lithographed and published by J. Baillie of “88 St. near 3rd Avenue, N. York”

A composition similar to that made famous by Edward Savage in his late 18th century oil. Currier and Ives and William Sartain also published images of the same subject. This version, while somewhat primitive in its handling of scale and perspective, presents a pleasing image of the general and his wife accompanied by their grandson and granddaughter. They are seated in an elegantly appointed room with a large window looking out over the Potomac.  The grandson has one hand on a standing globe with the other resting on the arm of his grandfather. Washington’s sword lies on the table on top of a map of North America.

10 x 14 inches, sheet.
Hand colored lithograph.
  Very good condition and color.
