“Icon Synoptica Sac. Rom. Imp. Electorum Ducum, Principum” This wonderful cartographical curiosity was engraved and issued by Matthew Seutter c. 1730, an accomplished member of the great German engraving and publishing family of Vienna and Augsburg. The folio size engraving provides historical information in tabular form. It is the third plate in a series of four depicting a gigantic figure of an Elector (a German prince of the Holy Roman Empire entitled to elect the Emperor) in full robes thickly engraved with listings of all the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire, including the names of European Princes, Dukes and Electors. The pillar at the left details heraldic coats of arms and to the right is engraved the crown and chair of state. With full original hand coloring it is a wonderful example of 18th century engraving. Approx. 24 ½ x 21 inches, sheet. Original hand colored copper plate engraving. Excellent original condition.
