...Masonic Temple... Frank Leslie, 1876. $175 Print

A wonderful image of the knights templar on North Broad Street. “Visit of the Grand Commandery of the United States Knights Templars to the Exposition – the Column Passing the Masonic Temple in Broad Street, Philadelphia.”

In the nineteenth century, before photography became commonplace, newspapers, guidebooks, and periodicals were illustrated with wood engravings. Many of the best artists of the day earned their bread and butter in this manner. They produced beautiful images that are technically superb original nineteenth century prints, invaluable for the historical information they provide. Their prints provide glimpses into the daily life of the period and a great deal of information concerning the architectural detail of specific locations and individual buildings. The regiments are in various disciplined formations stretching north on Broad Street in to the far distant background.

The Historical Register of the Centennial Exposition recorded every aspect of the construction of the buildings and the fairgrounds, the exhibits, the activities and the millions of people who attended the fair.

16 x 11 inches, sheet.
