Currier and Ives Star Spangled Banner small folio hand colored lithograph

Currier and Ives, “Star Spangled Banner”     $895

New York (no date) c. 1876

As publishers, Currier and Ives chronicled the history, customs, tastes and lives of 19th century Americans.  Publishing approximately three prints per week, the firm incorporated the industrial spirit of America in their mass production approach to their hand-colored lithographs.  Most small prints were sold colored by young girls using assembly line methods, each applying a single color and passing the print on. This image of Lady Liberty was probably issued for the 100th anniversary of the United States in 1876.

Hand colored lithograph, small folio, excellent condition.

Archival mat and frame.

Image size   13” x 9”

Framed size 19 ½” x 16”
