Currier and Ives, “Star Spangled Banner”     $895

As publishers, Currier and Ives chronicled the history, customs, tastes and lives of 19^th century Americans.  Publishing approximately three prints per week, the firm incorporated the industrial spirit of America in their mass production approach to their hand-colored lithographs.  Most small prints were sold colored by young girls using assembly line methods, each applying a single color and passing the print on. This image of Lady Liberty was probably issued for the 100^th anniversary of the United States in 1876.
