George Brookshaw (Strawberry) The Horticultural Repository, London 1823, $395. |

Plate 91 “The Strawberry” A charming example of Brookshaw's smaller work on fruit. Although not as large nor as dramatic as the fruits included in the Pomona Britannica, these delightful small stipple engravings have a naive quality that makes them irresistable. Brookshaw drew his fruit specimens from the Royal Gardens at Hampton Court and intended to depict "...delineations of the best varieties of the different species of English fruit." The accomanying descriptive text is straight forward and informative. “This Plate represents five varieties of this very agreeable and wholesome fruit…” All in all a wonderful example of Brookshaw's great talent. 9 ½” x 5 ½” inches sheet, 17” x 13 1/2" inches framed Engraving with full original hand-color. Excellent condition with accompanying text. Archivally matted and framed.
