“San Francisco” A wonderful bird’s eye view of San Francisco looking east, published in 1851 as an illustration for The History of the World by Henry Bill. The good size colored lithograph was printed in Philadelphia by T. Sinclair, a well respected lithographer. The view details the (at the time) small but growing town on the bay and its index lists important buildings including the “Polka House,” “Central Wharf,” “California Street,” “Market Street,” “Union Hotel,” as well as the “California Exchange.” The view was so admired that it was re-issued in a smaller format in 1857. Few have managed to survived in good condition, and we are very pleased to be able to offer this excellent example. 11 ½ x 16 ½ inches image. 19 ¾ x 24 ½ inches framed size. Colored lithograph, archival mat and frame. Excellent original condition.
