Pl. XXXVI "La Germaine" Pierre Joseph Buchoz studied law and medicine to become the Physician in the Ordinary to Stanislaus, King of Poland. He was a man of wide ranging interests including botany, mineralogy, medicine, agriculture and ornithology. He was not an artist, rather he published many books on these subjects "borrowing" illustrations and texts from a variety of sources. These engravings, from a series of 40 images of tulips entitled Collection Coloriee des Plus Belles Varietes des Tulipes, are among his most popular with today"s audiences.
