“The Great Harvard-Yale Eight Oar Race at New London”
A lively image divided into 4 views of scenes on the day of the race from a depiction of the “observation Train” in the top of the engraving to the frenzied activity of “The Start” to the central image of many ships carrying passengers to view the oarsman “Nearing the Finish” to the depiction of spectators of all ages at the bottom, this print provides the viewer with an appreciation of the excitement of the day’s events. The famous marine artist, Frederic S. Cozzens created the image. His signature appears at the center left.
11 x 15 ½ inches. Hand colored wood engraving. Excellent condition save small tear in upper right margin.
