“Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio”
A lovely detailed composite view of the buildings on the campus as they appeared in October of 1887 during the term of President Fairchild. Many of these buildings must have been new at the time as they are all in the beautiful and substantial Romanesque style of architecture so popular with American institutions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The buildings show starting on the top and progressing from left to right are “Entrance to Peter’s Hall,” “Lobby of Peter’s Hall,” “Spear Hall,” Peter’s Hall, “Council Hall & First Church,” “Sturges Hall,” “Baldwin Cottage,” and “Talcott Hall.” There is also a portrait of President Fairchild.
15 ½ x 10 ½ inches, sheet. Hand colored wood engraving. Excellent condition.
