Nigg bouquet with fruit After Joseph Nigg.
(Bouquet with fruit)

Joseph Nigg (1782-1863) was a talented Viennese painter of flowers, fruit and still life compositions who supported himself by painting for the porcelain factories in Vienna. His work is highly regarded for its realism and detail.   His paintings were often exuberant bouquets bursting with color and huge numbers of myriad flowers chock full of details including insects, snails, dewdrops, etc. The containers were often placed on a ledge full of naturalistic elements, creating a still life within a still life.

This beautiful large chromolithograph was printed by the Mourlot family in Paris, circa 1945. The Mourlot’s established their printing business in Paris in 1856 and it continues to this day. The renown of the atelier in the first half of the 10th century was such that many major artists selected it to produce limited edition prints of their work including such luminaries as Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Miro, Chagall, Dubuffet, Bacon and others.
