"Le Chateau de Clagny proche de Versailles et situe pres d'un petit Bois..."
Wonderful aerial description of the Chateau de Clagny with its famous gardens. The French country house was designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart for Madame de Montespan and was completed in 1680. Although it was considered one of the great private residences designed by the architect, it was torn down due to neglect. The engravings drawn by the Perelle family Gabriel (father) and sons Adam and Nicholas included in their work Veues des plus Beaux lieux de France et d’Italie are some of the few references remaining of the great estate.
