“High Street, Philadelphia with an American Stage waggon [sic]”

After William Birch by M. Marigot. Published James Cundee,1807 in: Charles William Janson’s  Stranger in America. Charles William Janson in 1807, issued an account of his years in the new United States. The volume included engravings of American scenes by the popular English artist James Marigot, many of which were based on the famous and popular views of William Birch. This view of High Street (today Market Street) depicts a Philadelphia of substantial brick row homes and tree lined cobblestone streets. The American stage coach in the foreground is quite detailed.

8 ¼ x 10 1 /2 inches sheet size. Aquatint engraving with full original hand color. Tiny repaired loss outer most edge of lower margin well beneath imprint information. Very good original condition.
