U.S. Mint, Views of Philadelphia, Phila: 1838, $575. Print
U.S. Mint, Views of Philadelphia, Phila: 1838, $575.

"U.S. Mint, Phialdelphia"

John Caspar Wild (c. 1804-1846), created a series of views of Philadelphia which he published in 1838 entitled,
Views of Philadelphia and Its Vicinity. These views are charming, small scale descriptions detailing the city's prosperity, growth and bounty of beautiful buildings. The work was so successful that it was reissued in 1848 by J.T. Bowen. This lithograph is from the scarce first edition published in 1838 and remains a lovely description of 19th century Philadelphia life as well as a testament to Philadelphia's renown lithographers.

8 1/2 x 11inches sheet. Original hand-colored lithograph. Excellent condition.
