Pl.37 Lumley Castle The Seats of the Nobility and Gentry, London: 1787-1807, $165.

Pl. 37 "Lumley Castle in the Bishoprick of Durham the Seat of the Right Hon the Earl of Scarborough"

Charming hand-colored engraving published as an illustration to William Angus's The Seats of the Nobility and Gentry in Great Britain and Wales, published in London between 1787 and 1807. With its accompanying text which describes the situation and grounds of the manor, which "...has been in the Possession and Residence of the Ancestors of its present noble Proprietor from the Reign of Edward the Confessor..." is a delightful view.

8 1/4 x 10 3/4 inches sheet
Copperplate engraving with modern hand-color.
