"Map of Mexico, Central America and the West Indies" Samuel Augustus Mitchell was a prolific Philadelphia publisher who produced various atlases of the United States and the world in the second half of the 19th century. Mitchell's maps were lithographed and well colored and always included a decorative floral border. The information on Mitchell's maps was accurate and up-to-date. They are collected today because of their attractiveness and affordability. This map contains four inset maps including (Hawaii) "The Sandwich islands discovered by Captain Cook," "Island of Jamaica," "Map of Bermuda Islands," and "Map of the Panama Railroad." 15 1/4 x 23 inches sheet, centerfold. Colored lithograph, some chipping to edge of sheet, otherwise very good condition.  |
