(Winter Bouquet) Jean Baptiste Monnoyer was a favorite painter of 17th century French aristocracy. His most famous works are the sixty flamboyant flower paintings he contributed to the decoration of the palaces of Versailles, Vincennes, Trianon, Meudon and Marly, influencing the interior design of the great houses on both sides of the English Channel. Monnoyer also produced beautiful hand colored, etched and engraved prints of flowers. His prints were simple compositions displayed in colorful arrrangments, in glass vases, or in simple bouquests. Cahier de Bouquets was published as a portfolio of twelve botanical engravings containing charming bouquets artfully tied with colorful ribbons. This engraving was included in a later 1760 re-issue of the work. 9.75" x 7.25" sheet size. Copperplate engraving with modern hand color. Excellent condition. |
