(Roses and Ranunculas) Paris, c. 1800-1815. $1350 Print

(Roses and Ranunculas) Paris, c. 1800-1815. $1350Jean-Louis Prevost is one of the notable artists of the French school of botanical painting which dominated the depiction of flowers and plants during the first quarter of the 19th century. Prevost is best known for his Collection des Fleurs et des Fruits, a beautiful series containing bouquets of a style and high quality very similar to this engraving but presented in a larger format and published in 1805. This exquisite image was mostly likely included in his Cahiers de Fleurs dessinees d"apres Nature. The artist"s use of the stipple technique and the lovely presentation of his bouquet are also reminiscent of the work of the great Gerard van Spaendonck.

A wonderful companion piece for our following website entry.
