Jacques Nicholas Bellin. "Carte de La Nouvelle Angleterre, Nouvelle Yorck, et Pensilvanie. Pour servir a l"Histoire Generale des Voyages. " Paris, c. 1757. Jacques Nicholas Bellin held the important post of hydrographer to the King of France. As such, he had access to the most up-to-date cartographic information during a period in which France was in the forefront of cartography. This highly detailed map depicts the area extending along the coast of North America from the Chesapeake Bay to Northern Maine and extending inland from Western Pennsylvania to Lakes Ontario and Erie. Territories of Indian tribes, forts, settlements, and shoals. Usual charming variances in spelling (e.g. Pennsilvania, Midletown, etc.) Cape Cod, Nantucket, Block Island, all clearly shown. 15 x 9 7/8 inches, sheet. Copperplate engraving. Very good condition with light patina to top and left edges of sheet as visible in photograph.
