|
Nicholas Sanson was the most famous French map maker of the 1600's. He produced many important maps based upon information that had been supplied to him by travelers, traders and missionaries. The high quality of his maps and the value of the information they contained resulted in the ascendancy of the French over the Dutch cartographic supremacy of the previous century. This very important, wonderfully detailed and highly decorative map shows all of Southeast Asia including India, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, part of China, etc. 18 x 23 inches, sheet. Copperplate engraving. Excellent crisp engraving with original outline coloring. Very minor discoloration along center fold and extremities of large margins. |
