World’s Columbian Exhibition, Chicago.
A “photographic view album” from the Chisholm Company’s series of “Souvenir Albums of all American and Canadian Cities & Scenery.” The album was produced for the World’s Columbia Exhibition celebrating the 200th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus on American soil. The guidebook contains 12 images, 1 full page devoted to an image of the landing of Columbus, a “Birds Eye View of the Worlds Columbian Exposition”, the “Illinois State Building” and the “Manufactures and Liberal Arts Building”, “Machinery Hall”, “Electrical Building” and “View Looking South Over the Lagoon”, “Administration Building”, “Art Palace” and U.S. Government Building”, “Horticultural Building” and Agricultural Building”, “Fisheries Building” and “Transportation Building”, “Mines and Mining Building” and Woman’s Building”, “The Forestry Building” and “Dairy Building”, and the “Pier and Casino.” The cost to construct each building is noted beside the image. The least amount of money was spent on the “Woman’s Building” but feminists take note, the structure was designed by a woman, Miss Sophia G. Hayden. There are 3 pages full of fascinating details concerning the construction and content of each building. Quarto. Each page measures 5 ½ x 8 ¼ inches. Photolithographs. Bound in red cloth gilt stamped boards. Prints in excellent condition. Scattered spotting of text. Boards scuffed.
