"The Centennial Naval Parade in the Upper Bay - The U.S.S. 'Despatch' and Her Convoy Passing Governor's Island, as Seen From the Washington Building" An unusually large and detailed view of the harbor full of ships of all types and sizes from row boats, sloops, paddle wheelers, ocean liners, battleships and everything in between. Spectators crowd the balcony in the right foreground and by the elevated train tracks in the lower left. The Barge Office, the Despatch, Staten Island, Castle William, the Statue of Liberty, Castle Garden and the U.S.S. Chicago are identified in the upper margin. 16 x 46 inches, sheet. Hand colored wood engraving. Very good condition save old repaired tear in lower right not visible from the front.
