Rabel Tab 40 Caninus

Tab. 40 "Dens caninus flore candido"

Daniel Rabel (1579-1637) was named court painter to Maria de Medici of France. A flower painter of great merit, Rabel's talent lay in his ability to combine the traditions and style of early herbal wood engravings with the naturalism and scientific accuracy popularized in the 17th century. This botanical was included as an illustration in his Theatrum Florae, a work of 69 plates issued in 1622.

14 1/2" x 9 3/4" copperplate engraving on laid paper, modern hand color. Some time tone on the paper otherwise very good condition.
