“Independence Hall – Lengthwise View”
Joseph Pennell (1857-1926) was a prolific artist and writer from an old Philadelphia Quaker family. He lectured with messianic zeal on subjects ranging from sketching techniques to the ruination of the American landscape by bill- boards. He was always audacious, opinionated and outspoken and an extremely talented artist who influenced generations of students. This lithograph was used to illustrate his work, Our Philadelphia published in 1914. Uncolored lithograph Image size 18 ½” x 20 ½” Paper slightly brown otherwise very good condition. Matted and framed.
