Crispin de Passe, a contemporary of Basil Besler, took an entirely different approach to his work on flowers and produced one of the most celebrated and imitated of the early florilegia, Hortus Floridus.  This work had a lasting influence on 17th century gardening.  Arranged according to the seasons, it was published in 1614 in four languages.  This was a charming book full of spring flowers such as tulips, narcissi, hyacinths, fritillaries, primulas and irises.

Copperplate engraving with modern hand color. 7 ¾” x 12” sheet size,  14 3/8” x 17 3/8” framed size. Excellent condition.
