“A Plan of Quebec”
A finely engraved and inked plan of the siege that ended French hopes of victory in the French and Indian Wars. Despite the fact that the terrain surrounding Quebec made it a natural fortress and the French were aware of the advance of the British forces and strongly outnumbered them, the superior British forces won the day and the city surrendered to the British on 18 September 1759. Both the British Major General Wolfe and the Canadian General Montcalm were fatally wounded the final Battle of the Heights of Abraham. The plan includes an inset of “The Port and Environs of QUEBEC, as it was when attack’d by the English” 10 x 8 ¼ inches, sheet. Copperplate engraving. Excellent condition with 2 folds as issued.
