"A College Regatta - Drawn by A. B. Frost"In the nineteenth century, before photography became commonplace, newspapers, guidebooks, and periodicals were illustrated with wood engravings. Many of the best artists of the day earned their bread and butter in this manner. This view of a college regatta by the well known artist A.B. Frost is an excellent example. Frost has depicted a lively scene packed with spectators urging on their favorite teams with cheers and gesticulations- waving their hats, hankerchiefs and fans - from their vantage points on boats and on the shore.
