Hasui’s interest in Japanese woodblock prints developed during his apprenticeship with the famous Japanese painter, Kaburaki Kiyokata. His intense blue night scenes and prints of snowfall or rain are hugely popular with vivid coloring and entrancing natural beauty. He traveled throughout Japan sketching scenic landscapes. Watanabe’s wood carvers would make the blocks for printing.
Considered Hasui’s finest Snow Scene, complex printing with
colour gradation and embossing of snow felt on paper.

Original woodblock printed hand colored engraving.
Later printing from original blocks.
