A Foxhunter’s Journal including That Reminds Me a series of Sporting Incidents in the life of a Country Gentleman as told to his Grandson by J. Stanley Reeve,

Copy No. 63 from a limited edition of 560 copies.

A charming volume of reminiscences of riding and foxhunting in Radnor, Pennsylvania over the period between November 23, 1912 and January 1, 1952.

An early entry describes a game called “That Reminds Me” that Mr. Reeves plays with his grandson. The grandson would bring a toy to teatime and Mr. Reeve would recount a story about of an experience that the toy brings to mind. Another amusing story involves a greyhound named Reddy who guided his masters to a groundhog whose head was stuck in a can, apparently in order for them to help free the animal.

One story will be of special interest to paintings collectors. Mr. Reeve bought a painting purported to be by Ben Marshall but the price was so low that he did not believe it to be an original until he later saw the image displayed in the Boodles Club on St. James in London and realized that his painting was actually an important original sketch of a painting.

People mentioned in the text include Isaac Clothier, Eddie Koch, Lynwood Palmer, Ray Hayes, Mrs. Edgar Scott, Robert E. Strawbridge, Mrs. Reeve, Mrs. Whitney, Mr. J.R. Kerr, Miss Kitty Reeve, R.E. Strawbridge, Jr., Andrew Van Pelt, Campbell Weir, Mrs. John Cross, Mrs. Howe Low, Frazier Cheston, and Alfred Bissell.

Red cloth gilt stamped with “Cheshire Fox Hounds” on cover.
Excellent condition in slipcase.
