Early original double page hand colored wood engraving from Harper’s Weekly Newspaper describing the Cornell University. The university was founded in 1865 by Andrew Dickson White who saw a need for a new approach to education and Ezra Cornell, a philanthropist who would found a institution where "…any person can find instruction in any study.”  Cornell was the first American institution to admit women in 1870 a mere seven years after its founding. The women’s dormitory “Sage Hall’ is depicted.

Original wood engraving measuring 16 x 22 sheet. Two small pin holes, and a few old foxing stains. Otherwise clean and sharp impression in very good condition
