"The Trappers' Last Shot"


William Tylee Ranney (1813-1857) is regarded as one of the foremost nineteenth century painters of life in the American West.  This striking engraving is based upon one of his best known and most popular paintings. The subject is a lone mountain man on high alert as he crosses a stream on horseback. The title of the work foretells the trapper’s fate.
