A beautifully engraved striking image from the crustacean section of Abraham Rees’ encyclopedia. The naturalist Rees, published his ambitious work in thirty nine volumes divided into one hundred different subject sections. The extended title of the work says it all - “The CYCLOPAEDIA; or, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Literature by Abraham Rees… with the assistance of eminent professional gentlemen. Illustrated with numerous engravings, by the most distinguished artists.”  Each plate bears the date and place of publication and the name of the engraver.

Copperplate engraving with modern hand color, measuring 10 ½ x 9 inches sheet size. Clean and sharp impressions, excellent conditition.
