"Autumn Grouse" or "Ruffed Grouse"
Philadelphia born Arthur Burdett Frost (1851-1928) was one of the foremost artists of American sporting subjects. This print was included in his famous series of twelve upland game and shorebird hunting prints. The notable New York house of Charles Scribner published Frost’s portfolio in 1895. It was called “Shooting Pictures.” Over the course of his lifetime, Frost created an impressive body of work including drawings reproduced as wood engravings that appeared in issues of Harper’s Weekly newspaper and The Century magazine.
