“Bass Fishing”
Great Currier and Ives iconic small folio lithographic.
Currier & Ives published many sporting prints. “Bass Fishing” depicts a father and son enjoying an afternoon on the water. Men no longer had to hunt or fish to put food on the table. The city markets provided everything a family could need. Thus, hunting and fishing developed into a gentlemen’s sport. Here, a father, dressed in a conventional coat and necktie, teaches his son this new pastime in a small wooden boat. Their day of fishing is certain to be a success, as they reel in their first catch. Sail boats and coastline in background. One of the 50 New Best #372.
