CCIV  "Chaetodon Vagabundus..."

Colorful and charming engraving of a fish originally included in a beautiful book of fish by Marcus Elieser Bloch and printed simultaneously in Berlin in German (1782-95) and in French (1785-1797). Titled Allegemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische, and  Ichtyologie ou Histoire Naturelle des Poissons.  The work contained 432 wonderfully hand colored copperplate engravings of fish. The fish are identified by name in French, German, Latin (and in the Paris edition English)  on the engravings which assured the book a wide audience and large distribution. These prints have long been admired and collected for their outstanding color and skillful delineation. 

Decoratively, archivally framed with hand painted french wash matting and gold leaf frame. 
Copperplate engraving on laid paper with full original hand color. Clean impression fresh original color.
Excellent condition.
