Pennsylvania Hospital was founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Bond “for the reception and cure of poor sick persons … free of charge.” The historic Pine Building contained large first floor rooms along with an historic natural history, medical and herbal library, and a surgical amphitheater. The Pine Building was opened as a museum in May 2026.
