Pl. XXVI “Fragment d’un Plateau Octogone sur Piedouche”

Original chromolithographed illustrated plate from Andre Pottier’s, Historie de la Faience de Rouen published in 1870. Pottier was the librarian of the town of Rouen France and the grandson of a noted faience manufacturer. His interest therefore leaned towards the documenting the city’s pottery manufacturing history. Pottier's own collection of soft porcelain became the nucleus of the Rouen Ceramic Museum. The beautiful soft colored warm milky white translucent earthenware traditionally decorated in foliated patters or ornamented with designs in imitation of the old Chinese porcelain. Pottier’s talented daughter collaborated with her father and documented in water color many of the more beautiful examples, and it was her portfolio which supplied the excellent illustrations of the book.
