An engraving by Claude du Flos of an allegorical scene based Annnibal Carrache’s painting of a famous story in classical mythology. Galatea was one of the fifty Nereides and the goddess of calm seas. She captured the attention of the cyclops Polyphemus who became jealous of her love for a shepherd named Acis and killed him.
