"The Centennial - Philadelphia, From the West End of the Callowhill Street Bridge"

Schell and Hogan created this wonderful large original antique print of the city at the time of the Centennial celebration. The wood engraving captures enormous detail concerning the dress, industry, and way of life of the period. Steam locomotives billow smoke as they proceed on the tracks along the river, plumes of smoke also rise from behind the warehouses lining the banks, horse drawn carriages mix with trolley cars as they vie for space on the road. Mounted members of the First City Troop are shown at the lower left.
