"Mont Blanc from the Village of Chamouny"

The magnificent beauty and topography of the Alps was one of the highlights of the "Grand Tour."  It was not only the well heeled "tourists who visited, but the English painters who popularized the alpine view. The work of J.M.W Turner and William Bartlett along with countless others romanticized the spectacular landscape. This finely detailed engraving of Mont Blanc as seen from Chamonix, was included as an illustration to Swiss Scenery from Drawings by Major Cockburn, published London 1820.

7" x 10 1/4" steel engraving with modern hand color.
