These unusual antique prints are renowned for the intricate designs and extraordinary decorative borders that literally frame the image. They are masterpieces of the engraver’s art. Scheuchzer was a founder of paleobotany and a professor of mathematics and physics. He traveled extensively and amassed one of the largest fossil collections of the 18th century.
In Physica Sacra he attempted to reconcile his literal interpretation of the Old Testament with scientific observations. The prints are based upon the work of well-known artists of the day including M. Fussli.  J.D.  Preissler, Corvinus, Sperling and Linz.
