"American Homestead Spring"

This hand colored lithograph of American country life was included in a series of four views of the seasons by the famous team of Nathaniel Currier and James Ives. It is a quintessentially American antique print from its title to their subject to their publication in New York City by Currier and Ives “printmakers to the American people.” Each image in the series was deemed by the American Historical Print Collector’s Society to be important enough to be included in their new “Best Fifty” listing of the publisher’s small folio lithographs.

It is a lovely early spring scene of a farmhouse surrounded by blossoming trees. There is a flock of sheep and lambs in the foreground. A man drives a plow behind oxen in the background, children play on the road in the middle ground and a woman is drawing water from the well in front of the house.

Sheet measures 12 x 15 1/8 inches.
Hand colored lithograph.
Beautifully preserved original coloring.
Excellent condition save small repaired tear in extreme of margin at center right and small fold at bottom left margin.

Note: Our 4 lithographs of the 4 seasons are available for purchase as a set for a reduced price of $2500.
