“Pas de Promenade Tom…Il Pleut”
This fabulous highly stylized, carefully colored antique print was contained in a series entitled ‘Gazette du Bon Ton’; a periodical devoted to the depiction of Parisian high fashion designs of the first quarter of the nineteenth century. The clothing, background elements, the postures, and the attitudes of the subjects all reflect a taste for the sophisticated style and taste of the art deco jazz age. This image shows a young woman beautifully dressed afternoon gown by Doeuillet pulling back a sheer curtain so she and her dog can look outside onto a city street. No walk today she says to her small dog, it is raining.
