A beautiful portrait of the sinewy racehorse Hero created by the collaboration of the best horse artist, engraver and colorist of the period. The hose is shown in the newly cleaned stall with a tattersall blanket on the hay in the foreground. John Frederick Herring Senior (1795-1865) was appointed Animal painter to HRH the Duchess of Ken. Queen Victoria was so pleased by her commission that she remained his patron for the rest of his life.
