"California"

An original 130 year old state map by George Cram, an American mapmaker who started his map making business in Chicago shortly after the Civil War in 1869. This map was included as a plate in Cram's theatrical sounding "Cram's Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World, " published in 1883. The maps in this atlas are interesting as they are some of the very first to use the new "Lithographic coloring technique" which was much less costly than the laborious hand coloring that had been the norm.

Lithograph with printed color.
22 3/4 x 13 1/2 inches sheet.
Good condition.
