This sharp and cleanly engraved print was included as an illustration in a large German picture atlas for school & home known as "Bilder Buche." Bertuch's oeuvre was a massive encyclopedia in 12 volumes, published from 1790 to 1810 with upwards of 1000 hand colored engravings. Bertuch was a well educated studying theology and law and becoming a successful publisher in Weimar, Germany & the largest employer in the town. The work derives from some of the great figures of the times including Bloch, Jablonsky, Merian, Esper, Ellis and many more.
