"Water Carriers"

Cain (1893-1962) was an important English painter, watercolorist and drypoint artist.  He first gained national recognition for the art he produced of WW I which he spent as a member of the Border Regiment in India. Shortly after the war, The Imperial War Museum purchased thirty of his drawings. It was not until 1921 that he created his first engraving. In the following two decades, the majority of his prints were scenes of Iraq, Persia, India and Burma. As a result, Cain developed a strong reputation as an Orientalist printmaker. The British Museum has a large collection of Cain’s work.
