" A Chamonix. Costume d'homme et de femme pour les Sports d'hiver"
This fabulous highly stylized, carefully colored antique print was contained in a series entitled ‘Gazette du Bon Ton’; a periodical devoted to the depiction of Parisian high fashion designs of the first quarter of the nineteenth century. The clothing, background elements, the postures, and the attitudes of the subjects all reflect a taste for the sophisticated style and taste of the art deco jazz age. The names of the designers of each of the fabulous clothing are recorded below the capitalized French titles. In this case, the image is based upon a drawing created by a French artist in 1912. It shows a man and a woman in beautifully made European fashions for the slopes. He carries long skis with leather bindings and a pole. There is a toboggan on the snow beside them.
