"Chalfonte, Cape May City, HW Sawyer, Prop."

The accompanying text on the reverse of the image reads:
the Chalfonte House, as seen today, in which Col. Sawyer has put up his splendid Summer resort, was but two years ago a salt marsh. Now, as if by enchantment, it presents the appearance of a flower-garden, intersected with trees and a variety of shrubbery, contrasting favorably with anything of the kind in or adjoin the city of Cape May.

The house is now supplied with gas, water, drainage, and other comforts equal to a city hotel, showing a remarkable spirit of enterprise in the proprietor to effect such a wonderful change in so short a space of time.”

Lithograph.
11 ½ x 14 inches.
Excellent condition.
