 The magnificent beauty and topography of the Alps was one of the highlights on the "Grand Tour."  It was the English painters who popularized the Alpine view. The work of J.M. W Turner,  William Bartlett and countless others romanticized the spectacular landscapes. This finely detailed engraving was included as an illustration to Swiss Scenery from Drawings by Major Cockburn, published London 1820.
